Trees and Beach | Stephen Springer Davis | 2009
So there I was, finishing up a couple of hours painting this scene in Bayside, Maine in August, when a guy walking his dog approached me. I’d had several others make nice conversation earlier, and I expected the same kind of comments from him: “That’s a nice painting.” “I have a friend who’s an artist too.” “Do you make your living as an artist?” That kind of thing. Stubbie captured in oils

Stubbie Luxuriates in the Sun | Stephen Springer Davis | 2009
So I came into the kitchen and found Stubbie luxuriating in the sunlight. He knows he’s not supposed to be up there, but he looked so cute I had to let him stay so I could do a painting of him. Stubbie’s mother, Lily, named for her pure white fur, showed up as a stray, pregnant, in our back yard 13 years ago. Stubbie got a touch of her whiteness, only half a tail, but all of the beauty of her green eyes.
